Chanakarn Semachai (Punch)

Bangkok-born ceramic artist and educator Chanakarn Semachai, known as
Punch, creates work that bridges cultures and questions belonging. She
earned her BA from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and her Master of
Fine Arts from Edinboro University, USA. Her work explores identity and
multiculturalism, blending sculptural and functional elements with vibrant
colors and ornamentation to convey personal narratives.

Her international exhibitions span Thailand, Germany, Taiwan, China,
Australia, and the US. A 2022 NCECA Emerging Artist awardee and
member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC), she also earned
recognition from The Ceramics Monthly. Punch organized the Chula Clay
and Culture International Ceramic Symposium in Thailand to celebrate
diversity in clay practices. In 2024, she was selected as a featured
demonstration artist at the Gulgong Ceramic Festival in Australia and
completed a summer residency in Jingdezhen, China in 2025. In 2026, she
was awarded a British Council Connection through Culture grant to conduct
a collaborative project and residency in the UK that explores storytelling
and memory through clay.
