Chanakarn Semachai (Punch)

Bangkok-born Chanakarn Semachai, known as Punch, is a ceramic artist and educator. She earned her BA from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and her Master of Fine Arts from Edinboro University, USA. Her work explores identity and multiculturalism, blending sculptural and functional elements with vibrant colors and ornamentation to convey personal narratives with humor. Notably, she experiments with layering colored plexiglass over clay to create
unique color filters.

Her international exhibitions span Thailand, Germany, Taiwan, China, Germany, Australia, and the US. A 2022 NCECA Emerging Artist awardee, she also earned recognition from The Ceramics Monthly. Currently serving as a full-time creative ceramics faculty member at Chulalongkorn University, Punch recently organized the Chula Clay and Culture International Ceramic Symposium to celebrate diversity in clay practices. In 2024, she was selected as a featured demonstration artist at the Gulgong Ceramic Festival in Australia. Looking ahead, she will pursue a summer residency in Jingdezhen, China in 2025.
