Katie Fee

Katie Fee is a potter, ceramics professor, and material enthusiast in Boston, Massachusetts, where she lives with her husband.  Fee earned her BA from the College of William & Mary and her MFA from Alfred University.  Her work has led her to kiln pads and clay studios around the world – most recently to France and Japan – as a visiting artist, wood firing specialist, instructor, and project manager.  Currently, she teaches ceramics at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, and is Artist-In-Residence at The Umbrella Art Center.

Fee grew up on her grandparent’s farm, and is inspired by memories of working, cooking, and exploring the landscape of wetland South Carolina. She also draws inspiration from her undergraduate Geology Studies and lived experience in landscape. She loves that ceramics marries seemingly separate worlds: simultaneously grounding us in the action of the earth, enhancing the architecture of our daily lives, and connecting us to our ancestors. Her pottery addresses the intersection between geologic force and intimate functionality.
